Meet The Team

Joan Kerpan - President

I have been a part of the pediatric brain tumor community since Kyle’s diagnosis in 1998. I “get it” as they say in the brain tumor world. I know what these children and their families go through. I strive to make things better for them both.

I have also been active with the Children’s Brain Tumor Network (CBTN) based here at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). They are a global community with the shared goal to save children and young adults from brain tumors.

CBTN’s wish… “Until every child is cured.”

My wish… “To bring peace to kids with brain tumors and their families.”

With this combination, how can we not win against this relentless disease the takes our kiddos away.

Susan Wasserman

I’ve been working together with Joan since our kids met in elementary school and am so looking forward to interacting with families and kids to provide support, activities, and some fun!

When Kyle was in hospice at the hospital a young woman who had lost her sister to a brain tumor came by with her mom to meet Joan and brought sunflowers, that was the flower that her sister loved. After that everyone sent sunflowers to Kyle and they became a big part of his final journey.

Susan made this sunflower plaque for Joan after Kyle passed away.
